Pencil Crayon Portraits

In this introductory workshop, create luminous coloured pencil portraits by learning how to capture the complex and nuanced coloration of human skin. 

Working from photos of a diverse range of faces, we will practice acute colour perception through the act of isolating the undertones and mass tones which can be perceived in human skin. By applying layering techniques, we will gain an appreciation for coloured pencil as a medium that is wonderful for producing robust and realistic translations of those whose face's we wish to draw. We will also become familiar with basic color vocabulary, and the relevance of complementary color relationships in producing dynamic naturalistic renderings of the face.
