Portraits - Workshop

This workshop will focus on the anatomy of the face while providing an opportunity to hone skills and discover new approaches to painting.

The instructor will guide students through her own process of painting portraits: using a grid system to achieve correct proportions, creating acrylic washes to map out darker values and using oils in the final layers to blend skin tones and create highlights.

This class will be an opportunity to play with colour & discover a palette that works best for you. Students will blend, mix, and record swatches of oil colours to use as a colour reference. After creating a colour palette, students will move onto drawing the face and mapping out darker values with layers of acrylic washes.

Students will work towards completing their portraits or getting it to a place of being satisfied with the results. Students who do not completely finish their project within the weekend will have the tools to do so on their own afterwards.

Suitable for Acrylic and Oil (Solvent-free) painters of all skill levels. Beginners welcome.
